New Guinea Ceremonial Atlatl

Ceremonial Atlatl collected in the Tambanum Village in the Middle Sepik region of New Guinea. These are used as spear thrower to launch spears further and with more velocity. Nicely carved piece made of hard wood. With the head of a parrot with an ornamental crest at the grooved end and the head of a lizard at the other end. The wide thumb guide is ornately carved. It is 32 inches long. These Atalatls make beautiful accent pieces above doorways.
