Beautifully carved and painteNew Guinea Papuan Gulf ancestry gope board collected in the 70's in the Urama Islands. These are unnamed gope or spirit boards used to guard uninitiated boys before they move to the mens haus. Larger named gopes are used to protect clan areas and skull displays. Beautifully carved and painted. Board is 44 inches long and 8 ½ inches wide. Perfect for a narrow wall space.
