Senufo Family Statues from the Ivory Coast

Senufo Family statues from the Ivory Coast collected in the 80's. Statues are made of hard wood and show a definite shine that represents the ceremonial oils used on the body. Statues depict a strong protective male figure holding a large knife and the nurturing mother suckling her child. Statues also show ceremonial scarifications and head dress. Female head dress looks to be a hornbill bird. Similar statues can be seen in the book "African Visions" from the Walt Disney-Tishman African Art Collection. Statues stand with out the need of a stand.
